Four terms, one big night
The DFX
year.
A dance year has a shape. Knowing it is the difference between joining a timetable and joining a studio.
January
Open Day
A full day of free workshops across every style and age band. Try three classes, meet the teachers, and decide with your feet instead of a price list. In the studio's own words: come on down and have a boogie with us.
Term 1
Classes begin
New students settle in, groups form, and the year's choreography starts taking shape.
Mid-year
Exams and comps
The examination stream sits its grades. The competition teams start their circuit. PJ Week happens somewhere in here, because it should.
Term 4
Concert
Choreo. Cleaning. Creation. Then a real theatre, a real audience, and four shows across one week. It is the biggest night of the DFX year and it is what the whole year points at.
The things that make it ours
Six dates that matter
Open Day
A full day of free workshops every January — every style, every age band, from 11am. Try three classes, meet the teachers, and let your kid decide with their feet instead of you deciding from a price list.
PJ Week
Exactly what it sounds like. Everyone dances in pyjamas for a week and the studio is chaos. It is on the calendar on purpose.
Exams
For students in the examination stream — graded, assessed, and prepared inside regular class time so nobody is paying for extra lessons to sit them.
Comps
Our teams, Femme Fatalz among them, take the Melbourne circuit. Rehearsals run beyond class time and the group photo afterwards is always the best photo of the year.
Together We Dance for the Kids
A Melbourne dance-community fundraiser we perform at, because never miss a chance to dance.
The Concert
A real theatre, a real audience, and a cast big enough to need four shows in a week. Recent years have been Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. It is the biggest night of the DFX year.
Start at any point in the year
You do not have to wait for January. Ring us, come in for a free class, and we will find you the right room this term.
